Resistance to change- A Fear Psychosis

Resistance to change- A Fear Psychosis.

It is common that ordinary ignorant myopic persons fear changes and resist it with all powers in their command. They imagine all the negative effects and exaggerate the anticipated inconveniences and start fearing it even before they actually experience the proposed change. These persons ignore the fact that no change can be made without inconvenience even from good to better.

During the 1980's, the government initiated plans to computerise offices and open up of communication in India and as part of it, it had guided the industry to install computers in offices and factories. In order to promote usage of computers it came out with pragmatic steps.

What was the response of the public in India as a result of gross misguidance by the hypocrites- the Communists organisations? FEAR. the lie and the misinformation campaign was that the computers would replace humans and large scale unemployment would result in ruining life of the citizens. The campaign was so forceful, even some of those in the Congress party had secretly supported the campaign against the computerisation. Coz, fear of inconvenience to life due to loss of jobs!

The left parties gave call for Bharat Bandh to protest installing computers in banks, offices and factories for that would replace or substantially reduce usage of manpower. The so called man power has been the source for the sustenance of the left parties. Nationwide protests were erupted against it. It was known to all that ignorance of the people had been exploited for the political mileage by the leftists. Bandh was great success. Even in Mumbai- the city which is otherwise very indifferent to and aloof from such political/trade union gimmicks- it was a success to some extent. Thanks to the farsightedness and decisiveness to stick to the decision. It is needless to say, as all those who lived through the eighties know that in the following years of protest, there were offices in Mumbai and Delhi boasting of Desk tops- there were no laptops in those days- and computers in factories and offices. The momentum with which later the personal computers had been sold and purchased was heartening and that put the left parties to shame, though in its inimical cunningness it saved itself from being ridiculed. Today, no office of the so called opponents including those of the left parties, function without personal computers and, of-course, the lap top which emerged much later, attained the status of necessity, today. He has also promoted the telecom sector.

Similarly, the present Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi, the most efficient Prime Minister of the Prime Ministers of till date, when initiated economic reforms by series of positive steps like de-monetisation, enacting proper rules for effectively implementing the enactment- Benami Prohibition Act- which otherwise enacted in 1988 and was remaining as motionless rock-, Prevention of Money Laundering Act, The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, establishing of National Company Law Tribunals and such other steps such as making Aadhar card compulsory and, linking the Aadhar card to bank account, pan card, mobile, ration card, gas connection etc., the opposition parties including the Left parties and the Congress coming together unleashed serious misinformation campaign. As expected the ignorant public as in the case of the past, picked it up and threw hurdles on his path to prevent liberation of economy. The steps taken by the Prime Minister Modi aimed to cleanse the economy by weeding out the demons harming the economical growth being black money, fake currency, corruption was axed at the root of it, as demonetisation hit bribes and kickbacks, money laundering, accumulation of crime money and unjust enrichment, and most importantly to check the route and availability of easy funds in the hands of terrorists cowards.

Another important milestone laid by the Prime Minister Modi is implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST for short). The world watched his dramatic declaration of demonetisation on 08.11.2016 and was left aghast when successfully handled the situation-notwithstanding the hiccup created by the devastated political opponents who thrived on black money- for the second most populous country creating an envious record in the world. Similarly, when he hit the GST road for 1.3 billion people, it fascinated the world economists and with profound interest they watched him implementing it. A country grappled with about 15 types of taxes for movement of goods and services across the country would be encapsulated, unbelievably, into just one tax! and that too overnight. Yes, same as demonetisation, GST was implemented, with all gusto, w.e.f 01.07.2017.  The added beauty of the tax reformation is both the centre and the state are put at par and shared the tax equally at the point of collection itself. Viewed from any angle, it is a piece of legislation should have been implemented at least two decades before.

However, the opposition trained its guns against him by once again taking the route of misinformation campaign. The attack was more ferocious. Small traders, restaurant owners, common men fell prey for it and the opposition had field day for quiet sometime. However, slowly the right information seems to have percolated into the lower level and the country slowly but surely falling into the groove. Initial days were horrible, as the small hoteliers, small traders and even the hawkers found opportunity to earn additional profit by levying GST of the higher slab and pocketing it. However, after watching for a while of its performance and as the shortcomings were poured in, the slabs were re-worked out and the prices of about 300 items came down drastically. Some mischievous elements who had tasted the higher amounts being collected against their products, clandestinely increased prices and equalled it with the billing amount of the bills with previous GST rates. The stiff opposition is gradually extinguished and the GST, the one India one Tax, engine started rolling ahead.

In the coming years, those resisted the changes and felt pushed to disadvantage would reap benefits as the nation, as happened in the case of computer and telecom reforms hit by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi; the demonetisation, Prevention of Benami, Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, Money laundering, GST and linking of Aadhar cards to the bank accounts and other services would prove to be of great advantage to both the citizens individually and to the country nationally.  Reforms could be implemented easily, if the opposition party leaders can remain tall by putting "the nation first" policy and avoiding unwanted resistance, by embracing positive changes.
